Over the years, JAMB has made lots of progress, and it’s evident in how fast they release results.
Before, it took days before UTME results were released but now, you can even calculate your score before JAMB officially release results.
If you’re among those who wrote JAMB recently and want to calculate your score per subject, here is how to do it.
How to calculate JAMB score per subject
To calculate your JAMB score per subject, you need to understand the JAMB marking scheme per subject.
Step 1: Know the JAMB marking system
The marking scheme is how JAMB grades you for every question you get correctly.

As you already know, JAMB consists of four subjects. Each subject has a total of 100 marks, making the total JAMB score 400.
JAMB subject combination & total marks
Subjects | Number of Questions | Total Marks |
---|---|---|
Use of English | 60 | 100 |
Other Subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Biology, Government, etc.) | 40 each | 100 each |
✅ Each subject has 40 questions (except Use of English, which has 60 questions).
✅ Every answer you get correctly, will give you points.
✅ Now, the answers you get wrong, will not give you any point and it will not take any point away from the ones your correct answers gave you.
Your total score is the sum of all the correct scores you get from each subject.

Now, the question you should ask is how many points does a single answer you get correctly give you?
How many points does each correct answer give you in JAMB?
JAMB marking scheme is the same for each subject except for the use of English.
Because of this, each answer gives you the same point in every other subject except for the English language.
How to calculate your JAMB score for the use of English
📌 To know your score for Use of English:
- Remember that English has 60 questions that carry 100 marks.
- The marking scheme states that for the English language, each question you get correctly gives you 1.67 marks (100 ÷ 60 = 1.67).
-
-
For example, if you get 45 questions in the English language correctly. Your score for English will be :
(45 ÷ 60) × 100 = 75 or 1.67 x 45 = 75 (1.67 is the point you get for each question you get correct in the use of English).
-
-
📌 For other subjects (like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Government, etc.):
- They have 40 questions and each carries 100 marks.
- The marking scheme states that for subjects that are not English language, each question you get correctly will give you 2.5 marks (100 ÷ 40 = 2.5).
Step 2: Count your correct answers
After writing your JAMB exam, you can calculate your score if you remember the number of answers you got correctly.

For example, let’s assume you score:
- Use of English: 45 correct answers
- Mathematics: 30 correct answers
- Physics: 28 correct answers
- Chemistry: 32 correct answers
Step 3: Multiply your correct answer in each subject by the marking scheme
Now, multiply the number of correct answers you got in each subject by the marks per question.
✅ For the use of English:
- We assume you got 45 questions correctly, which means 45 × 1.67 = 75.15 marks.
✅ For Mathematics:
- We assume you got 30 questions correctly, which means 30 × 2.5 = 75 marks.
✅ For Physics:
- We assume you got 28 questions correctly, which means 28 × 2.5 = 70 marks.
✅ Fr Chemistry:
- We assume you got 32 questions correctly, which means 32 × 2.5 = 80 marks.
Step 4: Add all your scores together
Now, add up all the scores you got from each subject together.
📌 Total Score = 75.15 + 75 + 70 + 80 = 300.15
Since JAMB scores are usually rounded off, your final score would be 300.
