How do I access my JAMB CAPS?

Before, JAMB had a portal, but it wasn’t as sophisticated as the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

Now, with the CAPS, you can easily do anything on your own.

You can make changes to your profile, accept or reject admission, upload your O’Level results, monitor your admission status and many others.

To access the CAP system, you need:

What you need to access your JAMB CAPS account online

  • Your JAMB registration number: This number is very important, not just to access your CPS but also for registration when you get admission. It is the number given to you when you did your JAMB registration.
  • You also need a good internet connection: You’ll struggle to load the CPS page if your internet connection isn’t strong.
  • A Smartphone, Tablet, or Computer: Any of these devices will do but if you can get a computer, that’s the best device to access CAPS. In simple terms, the CAPS portal is mobile-friendly, but using a computer makes it easier.
  • Google Chrome Browser: This is simply from my experience. I noticed over time that the CAPS portal works best on Google Chrome.

In addition, if you’re using a phone, set your browser to ‘Desktop Mode’ before you start entering the CAPS portal.

What JAMB CAPS is all about

The JAMB CAPS is an online platform that JAMB itself created to help manage the admission process of candidates into higher institutions in Nigeria like universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

It was created to ensure efficiency with the admission process and also to give the candidate a level of control in the admission process.

With the CAP system, you can make decisions and control (to a great extent) what happens with your admission.

The CAPS is important because:

  • It promotes transparency in the admission process, reducing malpractices.
  • As a candidate, you have control over your admission decisions and can monitor your application status easily.
  • On the side of schools, they can easily select the most qualified candidates fairly.

Is JAMB CAPS compulsory?

Yes, JAMB CAPS is compulsory for anyone who wants to get admission into any tertiary institution in Nigeria whether it is in a university, polytechnic, or college of education.

Can I gain admission without JAMB CAPS?

No, you cannot gain admission without JAMB CAPS. Even if a school gives you admission, it must be uploaded and approved on JAMB CAPS for it to be valid.

If your admission status is not reflected on CAPS, JAMB will not recognize you as a legitimate student.

Do I need to visit a cyber café to log into my CAPS?

Not necessarily. You can access CAPS on your smartphone or computer. If you’re using phone, just make sure to use Google Chrome in Desktop Mode.

What can you do when you access the JAMB CAPS?

When you access your JAMB CAPS, you can:

  • Check your admission status.
  • Accept or reject admission offers.
  • Upload your O’Level results for verification.
  • Track your admission progress.
  • Update your information
  • Upload photos and manage your account.

Conclusion

I can’t emphasize this enough, if you’re waiting for admission, check your CAPS regularly

Some universities don’t publicly announce admission lists.

You know what they do?

They just upload their admission lists directly to CAPS. If you miss the update, you’ll lose your slot if you don’t accept the admission on time.

Imagine losing your dream admission just because you forgot to check!

Trust me, the stress is worth it. Always check your JAMB CAPS. Monitor your CAPS until you’re officially admitted.
