It’s a common practice in Nigeria to be offered admission to study a course outside the one you chose when you applied for admission.
This happens all the time, especially if you do not meet the admission requirements of the course you chose or there is no more space available for that particular course.
When it happens, you’re required to accept the transfer through JAMB’s Transfer Approval Portal, accessible via CAPS.
If you’re wondering why it has to be done through JAMB CAPS, the reason is simple.
Unlike before, JAMB has become an active player in student’s admission into higher institutions in Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, everything goes through JAMB now.
Before, they used to just conduct the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) and handle parts of the Direct Entry (DE) program while schools would do everything else, but it’s not like that anymore.
Therefore, when you’re offered a course different from the one you chose, the transfer request will be sent through JAMB and you must accept it on the JAMB CAPS before your admission is confirmed.

You should know that “without accepting the transfer approval on JAMB CAPS”, your admission will be forfeited after it’s deadline.
In other words, make sure you accept or reject the transfer as fast as possible when it’s offered to you.
How to accept transfer approval on JAMB CAPS
To accept a transfer approval request on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS):
- Go to the JAMB e-Facility portal.
- Enter your registered email address and password to log in to your account.
- If you’ve forgotten your password, use the “Forgot Password” option to reset it.
- On your dashboard, look for the “Admission Status” option and click on it.
- Once the Admission Status page opens, click on “Access My CAPS” to proceed.
- If the CAPS page doesn’t load properly, you should use a desktop browser or switch to a different browser, as CAPS is sometimes incompatible with mobile devices.
- On the CAPS page, locate the “Transfer Approval” section from the left-hand menu.
- If you don’t see the Transfer Approval option, it means no transfer has been initiated for you.
- Once you’re in the Transfer Approval section, you’ll see details of the proposed transfer like the name of the new course you are being transferred to and the school initiating the transfer.
- Read about the new course carefully and confirm if you’re interested in it – You can google the new course to know more about it.
- If you’re satisfied with the new course, come back and click Accept to approve the transfer request.
- Once accepted, the transfer cannot be reversed.
- If you do not like the new course and don’t want the transfer to go on, click “Reject.”
- After accepting or rejecting the transfer, your admission status will update immediately, and you’ll receive a confirmation message.
Before you decide to accept or reject the transfer approval request, think about it carefully because once you accept or reject the offer, you cannot change it again.
Note:
- When you accept the offer, it means you’ll be admitted into the new course.
- In the same fate, if you reject the offer, it means you’ll not be admitted into that course and possibly won’t get another admission offer from the same school again for the current academic year.
What happens after accepting transfer approval on JAMB CAPS?
Once you accept the transfer approval:
- The school will be notified that you’re open to studying the new course.
- They’ll then process your admission and officially offer you admission into the new course.
- To know when the school offers you admission, you can check your Admission Status on CAPS or wait for the school to send you a notification.
- If you’re admitted eventually, you must accept the admission offer on CAPS to secure your spot officially.
What to do after accepting transfer approval on jamb caps
After accepting transfer approval, the next thing is to:

Await for your school to confirm your admission
When you accept the transfer approval on JAMB CAPS, your school will be notified by JAMB of your willingness to take the new course.

The school will then take about a week to process and conclude your admission and send you an offer of admission through JAMB CAPS.

Accept the admission offer on JAMP CAPS
The offer of admission to the new course will reflect on your JAMB CPAS dashboard, there, you can accept or reject it.
If you accept the offer of admission to the new course, your school will again be notified by JAMB that you have accepted the admission.

The school will then officially reassign you to the new course.

Apply for a change course on JAMB
As I already told you, JAMB and schools work together to give you and confirm your admission.
Because of this collaboration, your details with JAMB and the one with your school must be the same.
Therefore, to complete the transfer process, you need to change your course in the JAMB database to the new course you have been offered admission.
For example, if you check your JAMB admission status after approving the transfer, you’ll see a message that says:
“You must apply for a change of course/institution before printing your JAMB admission letter. The admission can be revoked if the change is NOT effected online within two weeks.”
This means your admission could be cancelled if you don’t complete the change of course process within the given two-week period.
Now you see, don’t delay – change your course in your JAMB profile, so that your JAMB record will reflect the new course and school.

Print your admission letter
When you’re done changing your course, log in to your JAMB CAPS account to print your admission letter.

You need this letter for clearance with your school and other registration when school activities resume.

Wait for your admission to reflect on your school portal
The moment you accept your admission offer from your school, your name and that of other transfer students will be sent to the school.
The school will then upload it on their portal where you’ll see it.
If your school hasn’t uploaded your name on their portal as one of the admitted students, wait for them to do so.
Uploading takes 2 to 3 weeks.

When your name is uploaded to the school admission portal, go and print your admission letter.
Just like its brother “JAMB admission letter, you need it for clearance.

With your JAMB and school admission letters, you can proceed to start your clearance.
First, you pay your acceptance fee
To do this, go to your school’s official website and you’ll see details on how to pay.
Acceptance fee payments have deadlines, therefore, pay on time.

After paying your acceptance fee, you can proceed with other parts of your clearance.

Now you understand what transfer approval is and how to accept it, here are things you must not forget about it.

Schools usually set deadlines for you to accept or reject the transfer approvals.
They won’t wait for you forever.
The deadline is usually 2 weeks.
If you do not respond before the deadline, you’ll lose the opportunity for admission.

When you want to open JAMB CAPS on your mobile phone, make sure you switch to the desktop view in your browser for full functionality.
Or, simply go to a cyber café or use a desktop computer to avoid compatibility issues.

When you reject a transfer approval request, you have declined the school’s offer to study the new course.
You’re telling the school that you don’t want to study the new course. This means you’ll not be admitted into any other course in the school
Since they cannot offer you admission into your chosen course, there will be no admission for you from the school.

Once you accept the transfer, the school will offer you admission into the new course.
You’ll know when the admission is official if you check your JAMB CAPS dashboard or get a notification from the school.

Transfer approval occurs when the school you’ve applied for admission to decides to admit you into a course different from the one you initially selected.
When a school finds that you do not meet the requirements for the course you applied for, they’ll recommend you for another course.
This process is called a transfer approval. However, the transfer will not take effect unless you explicitly accept it on the JAMB CAPS platform.
For example, when I applied for admission, I wanted to study Optometry and I chose Optometry but somehow, I was offered a different course.
It took me 3 good days of deliberations with friends and mentors before I accepted the new course I was offered to study.

Schools usually do this when:
- The course you applied for is full.
- You don’t meet the cut-off requirements for your chosen course but qualify for another.

How to check transfer approval on JAMB CAPS
To check if you have a transfer approval request on JAMB CAPS:
- Go to the https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
- Log in with your email address and password.
- After logging in, click on the “Check Admission Status” option on the dashboard
- Then select the “Access My CAPS” button.
- On the CAPS page, check the menu on the left-hand side and click on “Transfer Approval.”
- Once you open the Transfer Approval section, you’ll see information about the school and course to which you are being transferred.
- On the Transfer Approval section, you can either accept or reject the transfer approval request.
Common issues with JAMB CAPS and how to resolve them
Why is my transfer approval showing pending candidate action?
It is showing pending candidate action because you have not accepted or rejected the transfer approval request on JAMB CAPS.
To solve this, log into your JAMB CAPS account, then go to the “Transfer Approval” section, and either accept or reject the offer.

Until you accept or reject the request, your admission process cannot proceed.
Do I need to do a change of course after accepting transfer approval?
Yes, you must change your course from the one you initially applied for to the new course on your JAMB portal before your admission offer will be confirmed by JAMB.

If you can’t find the transfer approval tab, make sure you’re opening JAMB CAPS on a computer or switch your browser to “desktop mode” if using a mobile device.
If you still can’t find it, check back later, it is possibly still under processing.
I made a mistake and rejected the offer
Unfortunately, once you reject an offer, it cannot be reversed. Your choice is final.
You can contact the school for help, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll help you.
My CAPS account is not loading properly
If your CAPS account isn’t loading properly, use a stable internet connection to open it.
Secondly, clear your browser cache or try a different browser.
